Here are compared the Canon EOS 1D X to its EOS 5D Mark III sibling at ISO 50 through ISO 25600, using the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II at f/8.
Controlled lighting of two very different sources was used:
- Two tungsten halogen 35-watt lamps of about 2900° K (generic desk lamps). This kind of lighting is very yellow, hence it starves the blue pixels of light, so the blue channel in particular will have a propensity to a very high level of noise, while the red channel will be very well exposed.
- LED lighting, the Lowel Prime 400 LED Light (Daylight) panel, which has a color rending index (CRI) of 91+, and a nominal white balance of 5600° K. This panel provides a more diffuse light source.
- Daylight/skylight/sunlight not included— variance of natural lighting for a completely controlled test is problematic. However, a similar daylight test was performed (not shown here); the relative results were consistent with the results shown here.
