Overview of Canon 200mm f/2L IS

In my view, a 200mm f/2 lens is the most versatile super telephoto lens that one can buy, barring specific needs for certain types of sports or wildlife photography.

Adding a 1.4x teleconverter turns it into a 280mm f/2.8, and adding a 2X teleconverter turns it into a 400m f/4. This gives it tremendous versatility, and given its relatively compact size, it might be a great choice for travel.

While a 300/2.8 or 400/4 become awkward for general photography, a 200/2 is useful in a much larger variety of scenarios, including portraiture, and anything to isolate the subject.

With image stabilization, this lens can make sharp pictures (with some care), down to 1/100 second, sometimes even 1/50 second.
