This comparison evaluates noise from ISO 50 to ISO 12,800 in a real world scenario with a high contrast range. Contrast control was used during raw conversion to a degree often needed in many images (to open the shadows and to keep the highlights from blowing out).
Image are presented in both color and black and white, since the Canon 5DS R makes a terrific black and white camera. The grayscale version is a conversion using Default in Photoshop from the ProPhotoRGB color space to minimize noise (use of the sRGB or AdobeRGB color spaces can exacerbates noise.
