The 70-200/2.8L IS II is crispy crunch sharp wide open, with finely etched detail. Stopping down to f/4 achieves nothing except to brighten the image slightly. Stopping down to f/5.6 maintains the quality, stopping down to f/8 shows slight loss of micro contrast due to diffraction, and f/11 shows clear loss of micro contrast. One cannot ask for better performance.

  • Real world examples with insights found nowhere else. Make sharper images just by understanding lens behavior you won’t read about elsewhere.
  • Aperture series from wide open through stopped down, showing the full range of lens performance and bokeh.
  • Optical quality analysis of field curvature, focus shift, sharpness, flare, distortion, and performance in the field.
