Examples in White Mountains (Mixed Focal Lengths)
Examples on this page were shot using the full-frame 21MP Canon 5D Mark II in the White Mountains of California (just east of the Sierra Nevada), in late September 2011.
While shooting some of these examples, I really felt that the 8-15/4L expanded my shooting range to capture landscapes that are so open and expansive.
Images on this page are presented in color spaces other than sRGB, so be sure to view them with a colorspace-aware browser, like current versions of Apple Safari or Mozilla Firefox (not Internet Explorer or others).
An aspen tree rises from a granite crack
I was balanced precariously over a 20-foot drop to my right to photograph this tree growing right out of solid granite, so I shot the lens wide open at f/4. I suppose this is one way that hard rocks get split apart, since this tree is likely to grow larger and larger. And when it dies, its decaying trunk and roots will provide even friendlier ground for another occupant of the crack.
