Aperture Series: Mt Dana, Early Morning

This series looks evaluates performance at far distance in order to supplement and confirm the results seen in Sunrise on Mt Conness.

Mt Dana, Early Morning

Adobe Camera Raw 10.4.0.976: view ACR settings. Camera Profile=Adobe Color. Diffraction mitigating sharpening for f/11. Special processing to deal with contrast and detail for the snow.

Focus was about 1/3 from top and a bit left of center—the lower part of Mt Dana (see crops). Central sharpness is already very high at f/1.4, but without the violet/blue fringing (manifests as reddish) seen in the example at f/1.4 without a polarizer—it appears that the polarizer has cut off the violet that causes the violet halos. However, color fringing is visible in the outer zones (see the right-side crop).

  • Save money by choosing the right lens for your needs the first time, particularly some of the new Sigma Art lenses vs Nikon and Canon.
  • Workflow discusses image organization, raw conversion and post processing. Many examples show processing parameters for direct insight into how the image was converted.
  • Jaw-dropping image quality found nowhere else utilizing Retina-grade images up to full camera resolution, plus large crops [past 2 years or so].
  • Real world examples with insights found nowhere else. Make sharper images just by understanding lens behavior you won’t read about elsewhere.
  • Aperture series from wide open through stopped down, showing the full range of lens performance and bokeh.
  • Optical quality analysis of field curvature, focus shift, sharpness, flare, distortion, and performance in the field.
