Introduction to Nikon 24mm f/1.8G
The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.8G (about $797) is a fast high performance wide angle. Its two ED lens elements and two aspheric lens elements and 13-element design suggest a high level of optical correction.
Nikon has made a long series of 24mm lenses, including its AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.4G sibling. The design of the 24/1.8G comes about five years later, and it shows: at 2/3 of a stop slow speed and half a decade to tweak designs, the 24/1.8G looks to be the best 24mm Nikon lens ever developed (as of 2015). One might wonder if a revised 24mm f/1.4G could be in the works, but would it be worthwhile? Perhaps not.
