Examples (Dana Meadow Portraits)
These examples represent a scenario that I find highly appropriate to a 28mm lens: close portraiture and environmental shots. The goal here is most definitely real photography of fast-changing subjects, capturing the moment, not “how sharp is it”.
Lighting was quite cool (blue) high altitude shade; I deliberately left some coolness in the light.
Most interesting as a practical matter, I did not find that the D800E + autofocus was particularly helpful or better than manual focus with the Zeiss 28mm f/2 Distagon (those images not shown here). Off-center subjects needing precise focus along with autofocus errors seem to largely negate the helpfulness of autofocus.
The clearly offers beautiful results in out of focus areas, as I think these images show.
