Overview: Nikon AF-S 300mm f/4E PF ED VR
The Nikon AF-S 300mm f/4E PF ED VR (about $1997) offers long reach in an ultra-compact package at a very light weight, making it an ideal travel lens for anyone desiring “reach” without the massive bulk of a 300/2.8 or 400/4.
With its highly effective VR function as seen in field use, handheld shooting at 300mm was never easier on a DSLR. And with a modern DSLR, sensor quality is so good that raising the ISO can make even handheld shooting with a polarizer a viable endeavour, even in situations that are not brightly lit. VR should be turned off on a tripod however, and the vibration-free electronic first curtain shutter (EFC shutter) used (as found on the Nikon D810).
