Hot Spot—2nd Sample

This page supplements the original page, which used the Nikon D3x and the first sample of the 70-200VR2.

Testing the second sample of the 70-200VR on the Nikon D3s demonstrates two things clearly:

  1. The hot spot occurs on both the D3s and D3x, so it is a general optical flaw;
  2. The 2nd sample has only the barest trace of a hot spot, indicating that the first sample is not only a bad sample in terms of hot-spotting, but that the hot spot might be related to poor assembly quality, which also results in the observed right-side blur.

A series of examples is shown here, using both the original and replacement sample.
