The series gives an idea of close-range rendering style from f/2.8 through f/11. It is primarily about bokeh style.

With subjects like this, there is a delicate interplay between sharpness and depth of field versus the amount of background blur. Sometimes less (DoF) is more. And sometimes it is less. It all depends, but an f/2.8 zoom lens while not quite as flexible as an f/2 prime, still delivers gorgeous blur qualities—or it can do so—and the 70-200/2.8E does so.
