The Nikon 180mm f/2.8D ED-IF is a disappointing performer on the D800, showing only moderately good results even in the center, with mediocre to poor results outside the central 2/3 of the frame. It also suffers from axial chromatic aberration and other color aberrations. Not recommended for the D800.
The Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G VR II performs notably better than the 180/2.8D, but it too shows its limitations.
