Nikon D810
Variants 5.5 Under, Ideal available in full article

Pushing Nikon D810 at ISO 64 up to 5.5 Stops

A “push” is an old photographic film term which involved chemically increasing the density of the emulsion (or decreasing it for negative film). For digital camera raw, it is exposure compensation during raw conversion.

The D810 is examined here for its quality when pushed for up to a whopping ~5.5 stops* Since 5 stops is the maximum Adobe Camera Raw allows, the ~5.5 stop frame has been pushed 5 stops and had a highlight boost to better match the intermediate frames.

Just how good is the Nikon D810 sensor when pushed to an extreme?

A favorable answer to this question means a camera that is extremely versatile in the field for its ability to capture a wide dynamic range and to extract details out of very dark areas. Cameras with geriatric sensor designs like the Canon 5D Mark III are not even a consideration in this 5+ stop challenge.
