D810 vs D800E: Depth of Sharpness (Decorated Bike, ISO 100/64)
This comparison was shot three times over three consecutive days to confirm the differences observed here (ISO 3200 was also shot, no change in focus just a change in ISO and shutter speed). The differences discussed are entirely consistent each day, and are also seen in the color cast in the RawDigger info window.
Both cameras set to 14-bit lossless-compressed NEF. Shot at f/5.6 using the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4 APO-Distagon.
Questions addressed here include:
- Is there any difference in D810 versus D800E sharpness? Not necessarily peak sharpness but “through” sharpness. First investigated in Nikon D800E vs Canon 5D Mark III: Sharpness, against the Canon 5D Mark III.
- For the D810, is ISO 64 the same sharpness as ISO 100, slight noise differences aside? In short, is it a true ISO with no negative downside.
