Shootout: Nikon D850 vs Nikon D810, Early Night

The Nikon D850 can produce some terrific night shots, such as these, though follow-up shots showed a propensity to hit pixels like “pixie dust” all over the frame—difficult to work with since noise reduction typically does not address it.
This page pits the Nikon D850 against the Nikon D810. It was early night.
- The D810 used the Zeiss Otus 85mm f/1.4 APO-Planar.
- The D850 used the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art.
- Aperture f/6.3 used to eliminate vignetting.
- 15 minute exposure for both cameras, started simultaneously (within 3 seconds).
- Ambient temperature about 40°F.
- ISO 64.
- No long exposure noise reduction used.
- No noise reduction during raw conversion, my typical processing settings used.
