One aspect of a camera that can reward or not is the ability to push an image by 1/2/3 stops, either for the entire image, or to open up dark areas.
The Nikon Df utilizes a 16MP sensor with large photosites, so it ought to be a very strong performer in this regard. Yet the sensor alone is not the only factor; electronics can be more or less sophisticated in terms of minimizing pattern noise which can result from differences in color channel sensitivity (and other factors).
Typically, high-end cameras go to greater lengths in this total end-to-end quality goal. But while the Df has the Nikon D4 sensor, it might or might not have the same end-to-end quality in its image processing pipeline.
