Shifting for Stitching: Double the Camera Megapixels (Alpine Creek)

This page builds on the initial examples. See the discussion that page of the sizes and aspect ratios that are possible via shift-lens stitching techniques.

This particular 73-megapixel example includes an annotated finished image along with a discussion of what focusing choices were made. To be able to double the camera resolution quickly in the field, with minimal post-processing is a huge win for the Nikon 19mm f/4E PC-E.

Shift-lens stitching has always been possible but never worth the trouble before: I have tested about ten other shift/tilt-shift lenses over the years (Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Mamiya), and not one of them can approach the Nikon 19/4E in quality. The 19/4E ED is thus a breakthrough lens.
