SuperRes Pixel Shift Mode vs Std Res: Dolls

See also the dolls example, which confirms the findings here.

SuperRes pixel shift mode (“SR-PSM”) merges 4 exposures into one raw file. The raw converter must then take those 4 exposures and (somehow) create an RGB pixel for each pixel in the image.

Here the differences in SuperRes pixel shift mode (“SuperRes”) are compared to a standard exposure (“StdRes”). These same images were used to show the veiling blue haze in the SuperRes image; see that page for details as it is not our concern here. It does have bearing on perceptions however, so assuming that bug gets fixed, it only enhances the value of SuperRes.

  • Workflow discusses image organization, raw conversion and post processing. Many examples show processing parameters for direct insight into how the image was converted.
  • Jaw-dropping image quality found nowhere else utilizing Retina-grade images up to full camera resolution, plus large crops [past 2 years or so].
  • Real world examples with insights found nowhere else. Make sharper images just by understanding lens behavior you won’t read about elsewhere.
  • Aperture series from wide open through stopped down, showing the full range of lens performance and bokeh.
  • Optical quality analysis of field curvature, focus shift, sharpness, flare, distortion, and performance in the field.
