SuperRes Pixel Shift Mode vs Std Res: Pellegrino Bottles
This example still-life explores how SuperRes pixel shift mode distinguishes itself on fine printing detail, reflections, and small dust specks.
Pellegrino bottles
Frames taken at f/9 in APS-C crop mode using the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art.
SuperRes mode is not something that just jumps out at a glance in most cases, and that is true here also. But once you see it, you can’t not see it. Some of the things that SuperRes mode delivers over StdRes (must view at full resolution):
- Absolutely no color moiré or color aliasing.
- Full textural detail even in monochromatic red and blue areas; subtle crinkling and warping of the paper.
- Crosshatch detail in the light blue lettering along with fine bright spots in the dark blue lettering. With StdRes, the crosshatch detail is wiped out and what remains that looks like detail is really only spurious resolution—spatial noise.
- Reflections come alive and sparkle in SuperRes mode (see reflection on bottom of bottle at right as well as top reflections).
- Fine dust specks sparkle with light instead of being dull bright spots.
- SuperRes mode resolves the finest threads in the black fabric at bottom right down to the limits of the sensor.

Diglloyd DAP is DSLR-oriented, but also contains workflow and other topics. Much of the focus is on Canon and Nikon but also Pentax and Pentax medium format.
Special emphasis is placed on lens evaluation, focusing on Canon and Nikon and Sigma lenses, but with a few others like Rokinon/Samyang.
- Make better images by learning how to get the best results right away.
- Save money by choosing the right lens for your needs the first time, particularly some of the new Sigma Art lenses vs Nikon and Canon.
- Workflow discusses image organization, raw conversion and post processing. Many examples show processing parameters for direct insight into how the image was converted.
- Jaw-dropping image quality found nowhere else utilizing Retina-grade images up to full camera resolution, plus large crops [past 2 years or so].
- Real world examples with insights found nowhere else. Make sharper images just by understanding lens behavior you won’t read about elsewhere.
- Aperture series from wide open through stopped down, showing the full range of lens performance and bokeh.
- Optical quality analysis of field curvature, focus shift, sharpness, flare, distortion, and performance in the field.
