K3 'Card Not Formatted' Issue (fixed)

My workflow in the field at day’s end involves renaming folders on the flash card with a YYYY-MMDD-camera-lens-subject folder name, e.g., something like:
2013-1117-PentaxK3-15f4-LundyCanyonWaterfall
After naming image folder(s) in this way, I download the folder(s) to a laptop computer, leaving the named folder in place on the storage card as a backup (one reason that I favor 64GB cards, or 32GB at the very least since these have sufficient capacity for most trips without erasure).
The Pentax K3 seemingly could not tolerate these folders left on the card, displaying and refusing to operate. The message is of course erroneous.
