This aperture series evaluate the Pentax HD Limited 15mm f/4 on a real-world subject that includes front-to-back detail to assess sharpness and to rule out field curvature.
When assessing lens sharpness, it is critical to rule out erroneous conclusions that might occur with a flat target. For example, a lens can appear to be soft at the corners and yet actually be very sharp, but at a slightly different distance. The subject chosen allows a correct evaluation to be made, by having both foreground and background detail available to assess any field curvature behavior.
Resolution needed from the lens
The 24-megapixel APS-C sensor in the Pentax K3 has no anti-aliasing filter, and thus is capable of resolving a very high level of detail.
