Image Quality at Maximum Shift, 90/4.5
The failing of nearly every tilt/shift or shift lens that I’ve used (and I’ve used nearly all of them for DSLRs and medium format) is that few of them offer professional-grade image quality when fully shifted in the long direction, even stopped well down. However, the Nikon 85mm and Canon 90mm tilt/shift offerings do perform quite well when stopped down a bit.
The Schneider 90/4.5 offers very high image quality when fully shifted, but appears to require f/8 to produce peak quality.
Remember also that the Schneider 90/4.5 is a macro lens, and so to deliver this high quality at infinity focus is itself impressive; Nikon’s 85 PC does not perform particularly well at infinity.
