Processing

With any new camera, it takes time to learn optimum and preferred ways of processing RAW images. I mostly used the Sony RAW processing software, which has very limited and boilerplate documentation.

My goal was pleasing results. To avoid detail degradation, I disabled noise reduction except as noted. Unfortunately, I was never able to find satisfactory sharpening settings in the Sony RAW converter. While its other features are commendable, results are disappointing, given the detail the A900’s sensor is capable of recording; this is obvious when processing with RAW Developer using R-L Deconvolution sharpening. See the 50mm comparison and 135mm comparison for examples.
