Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4 SL

Main—58/1.4 Nokton SL II

The image below was taken at f/1.4 (wide open). Detail is excellent for aperture f/1.4, and very consistent across the frame. Stopping down does improve image quality nicely, but it’s already so good at f/1.4 that there should be no hesitation in using it wide open when the need arises. See the detailed comparison with the NOCT-Nikkor of this scene.

Readers who also subscribe to Guide to Zeiss might want to compare it to the same scene with the Zeiss ZF 50mm f/1.4 Planar, remembering that 58mm is a significantly higher magnification. The Voigtlander 58/1.4 performance on this scene is right in line with the Zeiss ZF 50/1.4 Planar.
