An outstanding performer on the Canon EOS 5D. It’s a real winner: very high sharpness, no hot spots, diminutive size, and minimal weight—140g without caps, but with filter and hood. It’s a superb choice for a small and light shooting rig—the 5D dwarfs the lens.
Backfocus is modest, but it must be accounted for in order to achieve critically sharp results. Stopping down to f/11 can mostly overcome the backfocus issues, but some subjects simply will not yield optimal results unless care is taken. Fortunately, the focus correction is easily learned; the best technique is simply to get in the habit of focusing slightly in front of the subject.
As with all Nikon lenses on Canon bodies, focus and stopping down are a manual process. Still, operation is relatively quick and easy, and no problem at all for static subjects.
