Leica Q

Examples: Climbing Mt Dana

These handheld images shot on a climb of Mt Dana in eastern Yosemite National Park on an outrageously beautiful day that served up everything from sunshine to ominous clouds to hail to rain to dense clouds to tremendous light-dark contrast. Just stupendous for July weather in Yosemite, which is normally clear blue sky.

I normally hike alone, but this special day included my daughter. It quickly became clear that the human element in landscape photos is rewarding; it lends scale and interest to the images. This series tells a pictorial story of the climb this day. Such an outing is an ideal use case for the relatively small and light weight Leica Q; it might well be the camera of choice for such endeavors for those reasons (here, size and weight are just fine for the outing). Plus its EVF is superb along with first class exposure metering—all these images shot on aperture priority, with only minimal exposure compensation; the Q does not tend to blow out images and can generally be left alone to choose the proper shutter speed—very handy.
