Leica Q

Perspective and Applicability of the Leica Q

One has to accept that any camera is designed with certain purposes in mind, and that in general the more specific the design/usability goals, the better the camera for those (more limited) purposes. Yet it may troublesome or inapplicable for other purposes, just as a sports car is no good off road.

So here is some perspective which is quite different from that of a street shooter, or general user. The comments are intended to provoke thought as to which camera is the best in the context of one’s own personal usage patterns.

A marriage of class and luxury

The Leica Q might be called a “street shooting” camera, the classic Leica raison d^etre. But making it a work of genius from a sales perspective, it also serves another role: moderate pricing (for Leica); the Q is the perfect jewelry for social gatherings, where the camera may be there first to be admired and second to be used for an occassional snapshot (sans fill flash). Appealing to the moneyed elite, yet also appealing to the traditional street shooter, now that is a real achievement no other vendor can match.
