The 24-megapixel Leica M240 sports a full frame sensor with no anti-aliasing filter. Together with the 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH, it represents the finest imaging quality ever available from Leica in the 35mm format. The combination costs about $14200.
The 24-megapixel Nikon D7100 has a DX sensor with no anti-aliasing filter. It is a prosumer model, but with very high image quality. Together with the inexpensive but high performance Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM lens, it produces a field of view that is a close match for the M240+50mm, and the f/1.4 aperture matches the same depth of field as f/2 on the Leica (in theory at least). The combination costs about $2100, or 1/7 that of the Leica cost.
