Usability: Horizon Feature
Firmware version 2.0.0.11.
The Horizon feature is bare bones:
- Acessing Horizon is 12 button presses, buried in the middle of the menus; turning off the camera forgets this access.
- The Horizon feature is not viewable through the EVF.
- The Horizon feature is not overlaid on the image itself, so leveling and framing together are not possible.
- Operation is entirely modal: no overlay; switch Horizon on/off, reframe, redo, etc.
Also, there is no option for grid lines, something sorely missed in some cases for helping align to straight lines.
In the field the modal operation incurs a constant and tedious overhead. Quite literally, I might press the up-button 1000 times per day to get back to the Horizon feature. Leica’s initial poor judgment in this matter could be excused had an effort been made to offer a solution (or even a public comittment to do so), but after six months the failure to do anything to make the feature more accessible is extremely disappointing.
