Shootout (Controlled): Leica 50/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH vs 50/0.95 Noctilux-M ASPH

This is one of several comparisons I shot comparing the 50 Summilux to the 50 Noctilux, all establishing the same conclusions as found on this page and the aerial comparison. See the notes and conclusions on that page for background.

Multiple comparisons are always critical to avoid erroneous findings, as cross-checks.

In this comparison, focus bracketing was used to determine whether any kind of focus error could account for the lower contrast seen at f/1.4 with the Noctilux. The Summilux was focused, the Noctilux was also focused but focus was subtly bracketed so as to choose the best match for the Summilux focus, since “accurate” focus even if it can be matched at center does not necessarily match best elsewhere in the frame, due to field curvature.
