Leica 35mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH

Aperture Series: 35/1.4 — Tile Rooftops Aerial

See a similar comparison on the Sony NEX-7.

This aperture series examines sharpness with the 35mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH FLE (2010 version).

The 35/1.4 MTF chart tells us that this is a lens whose performance varies across the frame in a wave-type way (sharper, softer, sharper), likely caused (primarily) by a field curvature.

In this example, we should be able to see peak sharpness and also less good sharpness across the frame.

The 35/1.4 also is known for some focus shift; the 35/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH FLE (floating lens element, 2010 design) allegedly reduces this to a very small level.
