Leica 16-18-21mm f/4 Tri-Elmar-M ASPH

16 vs 18 vs 21: 16-18-21/4 Tri-Elmar-M ASPH (Tiled Rooftops)

This page critically assesses lens performance at 16/18/21mm using an infinity subject with very fine detail under high contrast daylight lighting.

A tripod was infeasible due to the large number of “bumpy” people, so shots were handheld, starting at 1/2000 second for f/4. It is for this reason that the shots do not align perfectly, but it matters little for our purposes here.

This example shows the 16mm, 18mm and 21mm performance from f/4 through f/11.
