Veiling Flare 24/3.8: Shaded and Unshaded
On Leica M Type 240. No filter was used and the lens shade was mounted.
The goal here was to maximize flare: the camera was placed on a tripod, then was rotated and angled in order to achieve the visibly worst case flare without having the sun directly in the frame
Two images were taken at f/11 with the lens focused at infinity: one unshaded and one with the front of the lens shaded from strafing non-image-forming light (the sun).
Example at ∞ focus
The shading of the front element by the lens hood does not change with focus (distance between the front glass and lens shade is unaffected by focusing).
