In early 2016, Leica revised the physical design of the 28mm f/2 Summicron-M ASPH design; the new version sports the integral screw-on hood design of its 28/1.4 sibling and similar build characteristics. At about $3995, it is in the middle of the price range for Leica M lenses.
Optically, the 28/2 (2016) is nearly identical to its 28/2 predecessor, with claimed performance improvements. While this presumably is true, the MTF chart strongly suggests that the 28/2 revision delivers the same focus shift operational headache as its predecessor.
