Leica 75mm f/2.4 Summarit-M

MTF: 75mm f/2.4 (2.5) Summarit-M

The 75mm was originally released as an f/2.5 lens. In 2015, it was re-released in an f/2.4 version, including a silver finish mode, which Leica states offers improved optical performance (in unspecified ways).

The 0.1 stop speed gain was accomplished with certain internal changes, according to Leica. Also according to Leica, the design was tweaked slightly, but the optical design remains the same.

Field use shows very high sharpness by f/4, but what MTF charts do not show is a disappointingly weak control of veiling flare, even with the len hood attached—this serves to greatly reduce contrast in some shooting situations. Shield the lens from any bright light souce that might strike the front element—even bright sky is an issue under some circumstances. Not doing so means that MTF will be much reduced with localized flare “‘hot spots”.
