Field Curvature: 50/0.95 Noctilux-M ASPH
The 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux-M ASPH has very substantial field curvature at close range in particular, and it lingers at medium and far distance.
Examples here show the arc of field curvature which can work to useful purposes for sharpness with some subject matter, or can degrade sharpness: it all depends on the subject matter.
Field curvature is visible here as an arc of sharpness that extends from center towards the corners.
Observe that if one were to evaluate sharpness across the frame, the edges are blurry: “poor performance”. While the edges do decline in sharpness, they actually are reasonably sharp, but further back (greater distance).
