The Sony NEX-5N
The late-2011 Sony Alpha NEX-5N (about $599) is a 16-megapixel interchangeable-lens compact camera with an APS-C sensor. It is a sibling to the 24-megapixel Sony NEX-7.
Like the Sony NEX-7, the APS-C sensor of the NEX-5N has tiny photosites (somewhat larger though), and a 1.6X field of view crop, so that a 24mm lens has the field of view 36mm.
The NEX-5N lacks a built-in EVF, so be sure to order the EVF, or you’ll be stuck with a rear LCD only, which is problematic for those with presbyopia or in difficult lighting, etc.
