M240 at 28mm vs Sigma DP1 Merrill: Downsampled Resolution
This page compares the M240 + 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M ASPH against the Sigma DP1 Merrill using the same image as the two prior pages; this were native resolution and matched resolution, this page is also matched resolution but with the M240 downsampled to match the Sigma DP1 Merrill.

Downsampling reduces digital artifacts and generally increases per-pixel quality in every way. It is another way of comparing cameras with two different resolutions. In particular, a higher resolution camera when downsampled to a lower resolution and given appropriate sharpening should outperform on a per-pixel basis, all other factors being equal.
