Leica M240

Compared: vs Leica 21/3.4 SEM and Voigtlander 21/4 (M240, Wyman Cabin Interior)

Shot on the 24-megapixel Leica M Typ 240.

Three 21mm lenses are compared here for this interior shot. The 2-stops-faster contender against the Leica 21mm f/3.4 Super-Elmar-M ASPH is the Voigtlander Ultra 21mm f/1.8. Given the speed differential, a reasonable way to consider the Voigtlander 21/1.8 is to ask how well it does at f/4 onwards as compared to the Leica 21/3.4 SEM, looking at the wider apertures as bonus apertures that extend its versatility.

Because the walls and ceiling and floor approach the camera, a lens with peripheral forward field curvature is at an advantage (the Voigtlander 21/1.28). A lens with a flat field (Leica 21/3.4 SEM) is at a disadvantage, since its zone of sharpness will be somewhere behind the leading walls. The 3rd lens, the Voigtlander 21mm f/4, is a marginal performer determined with other field shot, but it is shown for perspective.
