Leica 35mm f/2.5 Summarit-M

MTF: 35mm f/2.5 Summarit-M

MTF of the Leica 35mm f/2.5 Summarit-M shows very similar characteristics to that of the 35/2 Summicron-M ASPH, namely the pronounced wave in its MTF likely indicating field curvature.

Central and mid-zone sharpness at f/5.6 is higher with the Summarit over the Summicron, so those shooters looking for a compact and inexpensive lens might do well to consider the Summarit. As well, f/2.5 looks to be comparable to the Summicron at f/2.8.

However, MTF is not the whole story, and one cannot assume all characteristics from MTF. As yet I have not tested the 35/2.5 Summarit.

Stopping down to f/5.6 yields a very contrasty image, sure to please in its sharpness, but with some loss of crispness in the mid zones on planar subjects.
