Leica 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH

Leica 50/2 APO ASPH Flare (Internal Reflections, June 2013 Sample)

June 2013 lens sample, which suffered from poor flare control.

As noted on the flare examples page, the 50mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M can show very strong veiling flare under some lighting conditions.

These pictures of the lens itself are suggestive of inadequate blackening of internal lens surfaces, noting well that this is speculation and not proof—but the picture looks persuasive and indeed to the naked eye this is not a type of reflection I am used to seeing with any of my Zeiss lenses.

Caveats noted, the three concentric red flare rings example appears to mirror the three shiny internal lens surfaces seen looking into the lens shown below.
