MTF: 75mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH

MTF of the Leica 75mm f/2 Summicron-M ASPH is highly satisfactory across the frame at f/2, with a wave-type effect similar to the 35/1.4 and 50/1.4 Summilux in the mid zones, but much less pronounced, showing a more uniform quality across the frame.

Stopping down to f/4 raises contrast to very high levels, but on critical planar subjects one might notice slight loss of contrast about 2/3 of the way out; this is likely a field curvature; stop down to f/5.6 to be certain with planar subjects (building, groups of people, etc). On 3D subjects, ignore this as an issue.

Field shots show that peak performance on the Leica M240 requires at least f/5.6, and even f/8. This variance to the MTF chart is unclear, but the behavior is not that impressive in the field in the f/2 to f/4 range.
