24-megapixel Leica SL
Leica 90mm f/4 Macro-Elmar-M

Aperture Series: Underwood Typewriter

This series from f/4 - f/11 looks at close range sharpness and bokeh.

Underwood Typewriter

Adobe Camera Raw 9.6 (625): ACR settings, Camera Profile = Embedded. No lens corrections.

Diffraction-mitigating sharpening was used for f/11 as per Mitigating Micro Contrast Losses from Diffraction Blur in Making Sharp Images.

Pincushion distortion is a mild factor here as can be seen by comparing to a corrected version (not shown)—there is a slight bowing inwards, most visible at the bottom edge of the typewriter. I am not so keen on this for an f/4 lens—I’d prefer the 0.2% distortion of the 2-stops-faster Zeiss 100mm f/2 Makro-Planar. Given that the Leica 90/4M is about twice the price and two stops slower, one can reasonably expect perfection.
