Zeiss 28mm f/2.8 C-Biogon

Zeiss ZM 28mm f/2.8 C-Biogon

The Zeiss ZM 28mm f/2.8 C-Biogon (about $1090) is an inexpensive lens compared to the Leica alternatives, but a strong performer and thus a terrific value.

Performance is crisp and contrasty, with richly saturated color and excellent detail across most of the frame, even wide open. Stopping down to f/5.6 yields oustanding results. However, there is a pronounced mid-zone field curvature that one must be aware of.

The lens design comprises 8 optical elements and is based on the symmetric Carl Zeiss Biogon® design. This wide-angle lens is an ideal companion for the 50 mm Planar® standard lens. Its features include high image quality without color fringes, haze or reflection.
