Lens Coding for Lenses Without 6-bit Code

As discussed on the Lenses page, there are a wide variety of M-mount lenses that can be used on the Leica M9 or M8/M8.2, including a vast number of older Leica lenses, as well as even DSLR lenses (with an adapter).

In particular, many older Leica M lenses can be found at very good prices. Coding these lenses gives you Leica “glass” at very reasonable cost. The issue is whether a lens profile exists within the M9 body that matches the non-coded lens better than the results without any adjustment.

The problem with all such options is the need to address the color shading and brightness shading issues.
