Analysis of 35mm Lens Choices

Semi archival page: This page is from 2009, and while the choices discussed here remain relevant, the Zeiss ZM 35mm f/1.4 Distagon is an exciting new choice which clearly dominates the field, in every way. The Voigtlander 35mm f/1.2 is also worthy of consideration at sa much lower price point.

The 35mm focal length might be the ideal one for the Leica M9: the area framed in the viewfinder is large but not pushing to the outer edges as with the 28mm, and the field of view lends itself to versatile photography from landscapes to people. I found 35mm a very enjoyable focal length to shoot in the field, and it would absolutely be my very first choice of focal length on the Leica M9.
