Examples: Portraits using Eye AF (Panasonic S1R)

This page puts the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 50mm f/1.4 to use for portraits on the Panasonic S1R using Eye AF focusing mode. A reflector was used for fill lighting.

I had serious trouble with the Panasonic S1R Eye AF. The images shown here are the best four images of thirteen—most of them suffered from “sharp eyelashes, blurry iris”—very VERY disappointing and a failure I don’t see using Sony Eye AF. I give the S1R a 'D+' grade compared to an 'A' for Sony—this is not a game of horseshoes—I demand a sharp iris of the eye.

Using a 50mm lens or wider for portraiture somewhat accentuates facial structure because the shooting distance is close, which makes for moderately strong perspective. Not to be confused with optical distortion which is near zero, achieved with distortion correction, and required with the 50/1.4 SL.
