SHOOTOUT: Fujifilm GFX vs Nikon D850 vs Sony A7R III: Sunrise, Lundy Canyon Waterfall
This page looks at relative image quality of the Fujifilm GFX versus the Nikon D850, plus what the Sony A7R III in its (impaired) compressed raw mode. Those latter two cameras were best of breed in the 35mm format category as of late 2017.
The Fujifilm GFX has pixels 49% larger than that of the Nikon D850 and 39% larger than those of the Sony A7R III, so its noise level can be expected to be 1.2X better than the Nikon D850 (√1.49), forgetting about any other sensor or electronic differences. That’s a significant difference—a one stop exposure difference implies √2 = 1.4X noise difference. Does this difference show up in the files?
