Moiré and Color Aliasing

See also Blur from Anti Aliasing Filters and Diffraction vs Color Aliasing in Making Sharp Images.

Like most medium format cameras, the Fujifilm GFX has no anti-aliasing filter. With high performance lenses, this can lead to severe moiré problems that make images unacceptable for professional use. Problem areas include fabrics, architectural features like window screens and in general anything with repeating spatial frequency.

One way to minimize moiré is to stop down enough so that diffraction begins to act as an anti-aliasing filter. Use of f/11 usually provides an acceptable tradeoff. However, stopping down is unacceptable in some cases (available light, desire for background blur, etc). Some raw converters have anti-moiré features that can be applied during raw conversion, such as PhaseOne CaptureOne Pro.
