SHOOTOUT: Fujifilm GFX vs Sony A7R II: Blue Water Flows Over Dark Rocks
This page looks at total image quality from the Fujifilm GFX versus the popular Sony A7R II. It complements the Pescadero Creek, Downstream comparison, while adding some deep back areas that used a +100 shadow boost to ferret out any dynamic range or noise issues.
Given the different aspect ratios and the different field of view and distortion characteristics, there can be no perfect match. However, the tripod was fixed in position and so at least the perspective (distance to subject) is unchanged between cameras.
Cameras and lenses
The Fujifilm GF 23mm f/4 is about equivalent to a 19mm f/3.2 in 35mm full frame terms. Having done a shootout at 18mm and deeming it to have delivered a bit better sharpness, I chose the Sony 12-24mm f/4 G as the lens for the 42-megapixel Sony A7R II.
